Transition

So it was about 3 years ago that I transitioned from Xanga (Shudders) to Blogspot in search of a more mature and professional way of blogging. At the time it was a massive change with many trial and errors to be had along the way. Now it is time I put my blogspot into archive and let my new venture to a proper website start.

For the last few days you may have noticed my usual domain timbo400.com was not working. Well that's because I was going through changes under the hood (on the interwebs) and things didn't go exactly to plan.

I've had plans to change over to WordPress for months and months and with the recent shift of several players to the game and many colleagues at Uni I've felt the pressure to move on. My new website is also a new focus and love in my life, one that's always been there but never really the main goal. I will pursue my major and new venture into the realm of the 'Art world'

I hope you all enjoyed reading my blog even though going through archives it's very embarrassing and cringe-worthy. www.timbo400.com will contain mainly art content but also the same rambles and everyday life.

Note: If you're seeing a weird old website of mine that's part of the problem that I'm trying to fix. That is not the final content!

Matchstick Men

After my last background done in gouache, I've really grown a little liking to painting little match sticks. So today I went out and bought a packet of 'Black & Gold' Safety Matches, they're not as classy and original like Red Heads but I'm not going out of my way to get matches in a different hue.

Pretty much a 1:1 painting although with slight emphasis on the body and lighting, I've started this line up of matches. Can you match the matches with the matches? It's a WIP but it's very clean and I'm really liking the way it's turning out.

After the test shot of the stoned fox, I've re-done the background properly and produced a new more uniform wallpaper like finish. Using the same wallpaper and gouache over 2 sessions I've ended up with this:

Going to test it a second time with the D7000 and a new camera to test it is the Canon 5D MkII since I'd like to shoot it 1080p @25P.

Some more updates of sketches, here pictured is Stuart Bailey, one of my teachers and Phillippa Griffin, a fellow colleague at SCA. Both inspirations to improve my work.

My room smells of ashtray. But it was definitely worth it after William Suen helped me brainstorm for a scene on how to improve it and what not. At the moment this is only a test but it's just to show you I've progressed.

At my current rate I doubt it would be finished in time for the TropFest deadline but I'll be happy when it's done :)

Shameful Plug, Win Keith Haring!

I was having a conversation with my mate David Lee about blogs and photography, finding out how to improve in both fields. It struck me how much readers and followers matter to me to keep up this blog, without you reading I wouldn't be writing. I tend to OCD over my website stats watching how many hits I get since I'm not any more special than your average internet user but I envy talented bloggers whose sites get so many hits (Well they are talented! And talent needs recognition) and it makes me wish I was a prodigy at something even if it's something weird cause I know that there's a niche crowd on the internet. So I'm trying to pump out more work and write more as some would notice from the influx of posts from my neglected blog.

So this post? It's not just a ramble about how I crave attention from you readers, it's more of a shameful plug for my eBay account and all the things I'm selling. Yes, today I cleaned my room and emptied all the unnecessary objects and these happen to be worth some money (Especially since I just spent all my money on camera gear and need to bring back up my funds)

Aside from promoting my eBay wares, I've decided to give away something that has sentimental reason to me. From one person to another I'd like to give away 2 of my 3 Keith Haring badges from the Tate Modern in England when I visited in 2009. Sure it's not much but you can't really complain if it's free right?

The Dip

The Dip at Good God in Sydney is a great place if you want some gourmet loving hot dogs. Now, wait a minute, did Timothy just mention hot dogs and gourmet on the same line? Is he joking? Is he really going to pay a premium price for a simple meal? Well, yes. But it's fucking worth every penny. Hit read more to see if this is true.

The Dip is a small eatery that's located in Good God, a den of retro-funky-groovy music that's filled with hipsters and trendy people. Moustaches and faux glasses aside, the dingy den of Good God sets a nice dark mexicanesque-vibe to the whole joint. But don't let the darkness and kitschy props fool you or hide the true reason a lot of people come to the Dip to feast. The amazing simple menu of staple foods that everyone can enjoy only executed with a twist.

Levins is the magician and maker behind the Dip, upon reading the well designed menu, you'll notice the food side's first item is the 'Lev's Dawg' followed by the few words of which I forget other than 'Hot Dog'. A simple bun, sausage of some sort, mustard, sauce and other toppings which make it a little more enticing than any other normal 'dag' you'd buy from lets say, 7-11 *shudders*; which is named after Levins himself (Duh, but yeah, I'd love to have something named after me!)

Scanning through the menu there are other lovely possibilities but when it comes down to the choice, I can't go past the Hot Dog (Priced at $12, it's a little pricey for the usual hot dog but don't let something silly like a price tag distract you from taste). Something about the traditional hot dog itself makes it so appealing, the simplicity and consistency of one just makes me water at the mouth as I type this at home. Me, Will and Grace all order Lev's Dawg, in true fashion of people who want a classic bite (There are other great things on the menu but really, the classic is what we're all after, the rest will come next time we're there). Alongside this is the Double Beans Nachos and Salsa Fries, perfect extras for the hungry just incase a single 'dawg is not enough.

Food is served as fast as fast food itself nearly. The dawgs come and although we were sitting under next to no lighting, a quick picture of them show the lovely hot dogs in their pure form. (Apologies for the bad photos, it's hard to compose and not eat these, the second I got it over and done with, I was chomping them down!)

I'll let the photos speak for themselves (Maybe not the photos, but the food in the photos), yes, they taste as good as they look. The bun is soft and spongy but not stale, the salsa is fresh and adds a flavoursome kick to the dawg that ketchup would normally overpower and the mustard and yellow peppers just compliment every bit like in a normal hot dog.

By now, you've probably forgotten that this is all happening in a dark bar/club that's playing something from the 70s. The drinks? They have the usuals but I don't see many people drinking the usual, it's all about the sangrias and cocktail jugs. The 'Pimms Juice' is by far my favourite, definitely also great to wash down the food if, like me, you eat your food too fast! ($33 for a jug that serves up to 4)

The Dip, a must-go for the dag-lovers, all dag lovers, by dags, I mean dawgs, by dogs.. ahh you get the point...

Photographic Accessories

So I have some new toys that I recently bought, they're all slowly trickling through my mailbox to me. Each day a new parcel comes and it's like a lottery I know that I'm going to win except I don't know the prize. One by one the couriers bring them to me, starting first with the parts I need least followed by the parts I need most at the end (SD cards, how can I shoot without a SD card?)

So enough with the slow torture, here's what was awaiting usage.

After gathering what I could today I was left with the dreaded fate of no SD card to test out my new toy. So I had to borrow my mums hidden SD card. With minimal shots available from the measly 2GB I mucked around with the camera.

My fish vapor died 2 weeks ago, he was my first fighting fish in a long time, I owned him for about 5 or so months. He was my favorite fish until I got the big tank. RIP Vapor.

Got Sauce Plz?

I am a confessed sauce fiend. For the type also known as condiments that are found ontop of your meat pie or alongside your steak and fries or sprayed into your bowl of Pho (Not the one you're searching for after you type 'G0t Sauce?!' in some seedy back alley of the internet). I'm often seen putting too much tomato ketchup* on my food at home and since I've got 'ETA's Original BBQ Sauce' (Seen here) I've been using and pouring it on my meals like it was holy water. Blessing each and every meal with the beautiful wonders of the said sauce like I was the Pope blessing the pilgrims before I eat them.

I, like most people move on from my sauces after long abuse, from a young age I remember drizzling sweet chilli sauce to mayo to tomato sauce but all of those are long gone now that I've 'matured'. I'll still have my Tabasco and soy sauces but my new love that may dethrone a lot of other sauces would be 'Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce' found hidden in many Asian conveinience stores scattered across Sydney and also found in the City on Crown St in Amasia (A clothing store funnily enough which sells Uniqlo and other staple brands)

This Asian chili sauce is often found in Vietnamese joints and added to meals such as the famed Pho (Beef Noodle Soup for all you non-knowers) After being finally reunited, nostalgia similar to that of ETA's BBQ Sauce, this sauce is definitely a must for any person that likes spicy flavour. If you have not tasted this and also like chili then you're sleeping!

Although I do love my other staple condiments, being from a Vietnamese family I cannot blog about a sauce and not mention Nuoc Mam (While sometimes a dressing or dip, this shit is more flexible than the word fuck in the food world), the staple of ALL Vietnamese meals, it's the only sauce I can make blindfolded. I pride myself in making godly Nuoc Mam. I drink at least a cup of that stuff a week! (Note: I'm referring to Nuoc Mam Cham, not the unmixed Fish Sauce)

So while I don't have a camera to take a picture of the Sauce bottle, I did my best to show a rough image of it. Continuing on from the theme of scanned images, I present to you the Sriracha Sauce Scan and model.

*Yes, I know, Heinz Ketchup & everything else from the supermarket labelled as tomato sauce for all you Australian readers

I don't currently have a camera since I sold my D700 but I do have a few other alternatives. I wanted to show off my freshly shaved chin but the Apple built in camera is so overused.

D700 sold, Nikon D7000 coming in along with a SB-700, 85mm 1.8, 120GB SSD, 8GB RAM for the iMac and a HDD Dock. Also got my 60mm Micro today. I have a lot of expensive camera paperweights :(

William took great shots, shit Jennifer even signed a drawing by Crez. Nosaj's set was beast, Toki was pretty good, got the crowd moving but I pre-empted most of it :(

Review: iPad App Blogsy

So after a long time of having several productivity apps on my iPad to encourage me to blog more often and in more places on the iPad I've spent pretty much next to none on such activities which is a waste considering that I've spent a large amount of money on Apps collectively. I gave up on using my iPad as a portable computer after I got my IPhone since my iPad was a non 3G, aka WIFI only iPad, so I was pretty much limited only to my WIFI access at home to blog which is pretty much useless since there is my iMac there and if I were to blog elsewhere it'd be highly antisocial or plain weird (Imagining myself being one of those douchebag bloggers that would hit up the Apple Store to do said things)

This all changed once I allowed WiFi tethering from my Jail-broken iPhone. Wireless freedom once again and with my new plethora of tote bags (Thanks to Grace and my Sister *Who's setting up a new food blog, so I think the IPad would be a great addition to her travelings*) I can once again actively blog on the go.

So back to the topic, Apps that make blogging life easier. Everyone has their preferred method of blogging, I have plenty of ideas throughout my day and would like to document them all but I'm not going to pull out my phone and type crap and I'm definitely not going to remember said things and I don't really like to write up drafts, generally it's go all out or nothing (Obviously the latter) so I needed an app that allows me to write drafts if needed but also allow me to source images from flickr since sometimes I want to upload images but don't want to write a story until tomorrow.

Review: Blogsy

I originally used blogpress on iPad to post up my blog but the problem with this app was that it couldn't source images from Google or images already on my flickr (It required me to source images on my iPad and THEN upload them to flickr or picasa) so while it was quite suitable for writing general posts it was quite useless when coming to doing photoblogs and what not. That's when I went trawling on App Store for a good replacement and only on page 3 did I find Blogsy, a 4.5 star app with most features from blogpress and a few extra.

So what's so special about this app? Having a tablet (or in some cases an ipad) means you can't easily just alt/cmd+tab and then copy image and ctrl/cmd+v like I would on my chrome blogger page. What would I do on the iPad? I wouldn't, that's pretty much it, I've tried it before and it's pretty much pointless and takes too many steps. The Blogsy app has two areas, the Write side and the Live side, and write side (Which is ironically on the left) is the side you do all your typing and formatting, with an easy finger swipe to the left or right you can quickly switch from a rich text format or to a HTML editor. Good for when you want do finer edits (I write in rich text format)

The 'write side' is pretty much like any other blogging app although what makes Blogsy really pop is how it synergies with the 'live side'. The live side is situated on the right hand side and allows you to hit the tabs/round icons to open up the resources to fill and brighten up your post. This is super handy in situations where you need to source images without the need to find the image link, then go through the process of copy and pasting it and doing the HTML img code just for a simple image... Even harder if you have several images to post. This saves plenty of time when it comes typing up a post and pretty much removes the need for post editing.

With the inclusion of resource icons to Flickr, Picasa, YouTube, Google Image Search, Safari, iPad Photo Library and Wordpress, you're able to quick link or retrieve images, videos and information with a single touch, no need to navigate into other programs.

If you have an iPad and would like to blog efficiently, then I highly recommend Blogsy, I'm yet to fully use all the functions since I'm still playing around with it but so far this feature packed app is successful in delivering a blogging experience that most other apps cannot. This app lives up to it's description and promises.

Pros:

- Ease of use

- Touch orientation

- Fast

Cons:

- ~~Cannot delete drafts/accidental tags~~ Read the FAQ

- Crashed once whilst writing this (Didn't lose anything)

- No Choice of fonts or colors. (Most of it I have automatically changed but it's nice to have an option)

Passionate Purchases

I'm not really one that buys CD albums or books (I do like buying books since physically having one is really satisfying) but when it comes to music, I find that I can try out and listen for free, if the artist offers a donation then I may donate (~~general~~ I don't) but a few weeks ago I found myself buying FunkyDL's Jazzstrumentals only to find that he tweeted @timbo400. This type of artist/consumer interaction makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, kind of like a thanks, 'I guarantee that my album is good and I know you'll enjoy it' instead of the 'Sucker, you got my album that only has 1 or 2 good songs on it! Sucked in!' Obviously that's not the intent of any artists but sometimes I feel so cheated even after downloading an album only to find that it predominately sucks... you wasted my bandwidth! But this logic went down the drain when I was at JB-HiFi Hornsby on Saturday. I was inside the Hip-Hop/Urban section and trawled for a few albums that I really wanted... after sifting through several rows I found this by Guru and impulsed it. Jazzzmatazz double CD, I remember that MC Solaar was on it so I thought I'd give it a try. Driving home the first CD was trash and I was pretty much convinced I had thrown away $15 on the first disc (The double disc was 29.99) but that's when disc 2 came in and I was grooving all the way home. I'm really feeling Jazz at the moment and I'm finding myself vibing with it really well.

Another thing of the list of purchases is 'Growing Bonsai; A Practical Encyclopedia' After many untrained attempts of trying to grow shoots I decided to slowly learn how to grow a Bonsai and practice my patience. I'd like to say I can wait for my Bonsai to grow... but I'm not that patient!

I guess it's time to chill and read to some nice relaxing Jazz-Hop and read some books.

Thanks to Melvin for lending me his SB-900 and the old man on Adderton Rd for leaving his lamp outside his house (I didn't steal it! he was throwing it out!) I've always wanted an old library lamp like this and even considered purchasing one from a thrift store to get my fix but obviously it was an unnecessary want. Going to enjoy using this SB-900 while I have it in my hands!

So I've been a little lazy over the last few weeks in terms of producing artworks. I'm thinking of a few new ideas but my physical state of being fat is making me somehow not feeling in the mood... but every so often someone pushes me to produce something..

Charis Lee, I was suppose to make her a 70s style cartoon version of her but after doing several sketches and playing around in Ai, I found out that I wasn't feeling the way her face was coming out using my technique. Since the geometrical shapes didn't get her lovely face-shape (Something that makes the image personal for the portrait) I decided to watercolor/gouache her up from a drawing I did of her when she was a wee young girl :)

When I think of Charis, I think of her and her sweet foods! So I decided to make her a Jelly bean (It's more of a capsule shape, but whateves!)

So what did she look like as a kid? A cute girl wandering through the fields

(And not much has changed! :P)

Review: SoundMAGIC PL50

I'm not an audiophile but for some reason I keep fiending to get the best Hi-Fi equipment. So since I'm not really earning C.R.E.A.M., I went for a cheaper option for IEMs, making sure that quality (both durability and SQ) were the basis on my purchase and after researching for several months I decided to get the SoundMagic PL50s.

I've owned a few pair of canalphones in my time, my first pair back in highschool that was stock with a W800i, then moving onto the Sennheiser CX300-II before moving to AKG K321s. The problem with canalphones is finding the right tips, my ears are quite small and only ever had the CX300-II fit the best. The AKGs lasted me about 1 month since the jack cover is straight out and is not angled like most headphones, this was a major problem since the line would get damaged since my iPod/iPhone was in my pocket and the lead would get crushed. Also the banana shape of the earpiece made it difficult for the earphone to stay in my ear for longer than 10 minutes without fiddling with my ears pushing it in. Definitely a no-no. I'll stick to AKG's Hi-Fi range next time (Oh I do dream of owning a pair of K701/2s)

So why SoundMagic? The reviews said they were neutral, they're accurate and most of all cheap. So I thought why not? For $70AUD shipped in 10 days I thought why not. I'm more of a bass lover since I'm more rooted to Hip-Hop but I didn't mind that since I'm planning for a Fiio E7 for some EQ loving.

As soon as I got the box today, it wasn't really greatly presented, SoundMagic are known for quality earphones, not well-designed packaging. Inside were the IEMs, plenty of rubber tips and foam tips, a pleather bag, ear-clips and apparently a cord-clip... which was missing but I don't mind. So the first thing to do was to try it out and normally the stock-tip never fits me... but I was pleasantly surprised, the tip fit me perfectly. Snuggly fitting and it definitely lived up to it's claimed -20DB noise isolation, this is a must for when I'm travelling or commuting.

So I put them on into my iPhone + Fiio E1 and played my usual. Daft Punk's 'One More Time' and 'Aerodynamic' then Nosaj Thing's Drift album. The mids and highs are very crisp, bassline is so neutral it's kind of like distilled water, no more no less. I would like it a bit more bassy but then I'd be asking so much with short arms and deep pockets.

After this, I thought why not venture out and give them a slight drive-test. I put on the ear-clips (Something that needs to be tested by you to make sure the length of the cable fed into the ear-clips are correct so they clip on your ears well and also so slip out) and went for a run around the block for 30 minutes. I put the iPhone on shuffle and started running, not a single car was heard and only my panting was heard. The sound isolation is great and doesn't rape the ear canal like an Etym would (Those triple flanges look hella scary O_O)

I'm yet to really burn into these PL50s since I've only listened to them for about 3 hours, I don't have much to reference them to since I'm new to this whole thing, but these are definitely going to give my ears a good harmonic vacation after being deprived of sonic-gold for so long. Timbo recommends these if you're looking for a pair of Sub-$100 IEMs. 4/5

Cabramatta has changed so much within the last 10-15 years. I always tell people the stories of what I remembered when I was young, being a 8 or 10 years old, the fresh bullet holes in the police station's windows, the drug dealers that roamed freely and the delicious food that still gets served today. A lot has changed but the culture and traditions are still the same, it's a great place to eat and relax even though in some of the arcades there seems to be a riot of people just trying to get their fix of food, most Westerners would think of it as a day before the apocalypse yet it's the everyday 'hustle' for the locals; although it's very alike with Paddies market or Flemington, so those that have experienced that aren't in for much more. Whilst the people may be a spectacle, I'm only really interested in the food and drinks.

I don't know about you but I am inlove with chicken feet and pork belly. The restaurant that I eat the salad at is Bao something 8 or something. Anyway that's so vague but I think anyone that visits Cabramatta cannot eat and NOT get a drink of some sort. My personal favourite is Jack Fruit Sinh-to (Which is a Vietnamese smoothie) this shit is the bomb and if you're not going to get your Sugar Cane Drank (Nouc Mia) either than I suggest Avocado Sinh-to or the drinks you can choose 3-5 toppings. They're the gangster ones!

I'm not hella Viet, but I know enough to enjoy my roots and to curse a little or talk behind someone's back to another Vietnamese friend. After watch 'Go Back To Wear You Came From' on SBS, it reminds me of the struggles my Mum went through and how good it is that I still have some tradition in me.

The weekend was pretty fun, I finally met my other Mother Diane and I spent the evening at Sneakerology enjoying Katalyst on the decks and omnomnoming on mini burgers. Met some old faces and saw some new, also talked to a girl from 'That Store' for a job opportunity in the city (Something I have needed in so long)

A little More... Life Like?

So a few of you might be wondering what the photos from the N8000 look like... well after developing them on Tuesday and then scanning them on Wednesday I've finally edited them for online usage. Editing the raw scans at home I just cut out the outer images from each 4-frame photo to create a stereoscopic image to be viewed using cross-eyed technique. (They are best viewed in fullscreen)

I also created a couple of animated 3D images which are pretty cool too :)

And then if anyone's wondering my personal side? It's been great, yesterday I found out I got market research next week eating chocolate at Parramatta and getting paid, then also bought some monitors and IEM and a Fiio E1. I really cannot wait to try all of them out, as many friends have noticed, I really like buying headphones. This year alone I have bought 5 pairs and last year, 3.

Go my visit to Waterloo done, processed photos, had lunch with Grace and also visited the galleries.

The French House is so damn good! Love the music, the atmosphere (I'm listening to Atmosphere atm, but that's just off topic now) and the food. The coffee wasn't great but the pastries were delicious. Second visit and definitely not the last.

I was also mind blown by a few works:

I think we aced it, with positive feedback. So I'm really happy with all the results and the amount of effect (or the lack of it) Scott and I put into it. I really enjoyed the trial & error process to get from A til Z on this project, we talked and talked for at least 1-2 hours a week on what to do on it and it slowly burned down from an ambitious unachievable idea to a solid and minimal polished work (Well in my eyes)

The Next Day...

Then on Saturday I had a massively Vietnamese day, after David came over for Banh Xeo, we trekked it to Cabramatta where we OD'd on Vietnamese food. David, Jay, Michael, Chris & Andy were there as I toured them throughout the ghettoes and the unusual sights of Cabra, a sight into Vietnamese culture and lifestyles. We then went to 'Time Gone' where the old school arcade machines brought back good memories, from Raiden to David owning on DDR. That was seriously the kicker to end the evening on an awesome note.

Charis' house party shortly ensued, I travelled from Epping to Pymble dressed as a little school boy with a massive samurai sword. It's not your average sight either, getting many stares from North and Eastern suburb teens and getting stopped by a train driver for apparently holding an illegal weapon (He deemed it safe after inspection)

It was a good night and ended with tea back at my house with Sujin and Grace. I couldn't ask for a better day :)

Well after a long week, I've come to conclude a few big future steps in my life. Now that I know my ultimate goals and focuses I know what to try my hardest in and what to do :) A lot is off my shoulders and I guess I'm just maturing, maybe it was the big two-one that got me all shook!

Fixed my car again today, replaced the broken mirror that some idiot broke after I parked it overnight at Eastwood. Here's the damage that got removed...

Also got my new Firewire 800 portable hard drive in the mail, it was so cheap! $50 for a 500GB FW800! And also got my first doll accessory for my film :)

It's next to the watch to show you the sizing of it, it's so detailed! Cannot wait to see it all together! While I'm showing you my watch, here's my favourite watch at the moment.

The O clock is a watch that has a removable clock face and interchangeable rubber bands, purchased from Capsule for $50, once you buy the face all you need to do is spend $20 for the bands! It's so good and flexible (Both rubberwise and fashion wise!) and while we're on the fractal roll, my boy Jay is spinning the wheels of steel this Thursday at Soundbombing, so come support your local and meet me and the boys from Capsule and many more at Soundbombing!

Oh Bother!

It's been a hard few weeks but finally I've scrounged up enough courage to blog after a few weeks MIA. To put you all up to date, I've turned 21, although not mentally older, I'm legally allowed to drink in the States and a few other countries not worthy of mentioning.

It was my first proper party and my first surprise party, I was so shocked and amazed and I felt loved for the first time in a long time. It was good to see everyone's face since I've been neglecting (nothing new right?) a lot of people. I did not expect anything more than a dinner but was greeted with all my best friends, from school, family and other awesome people. Thank you to everyone that came.

I'm slowly chipping away at my film, I'm not working on it as much as I hope I would. At the moment money constraints is making a little hard but I'm slowly getting there. Also my Viewmaster project is also about to receive funding, so I'm really excited to finally get the film developed.

Also marking this as my first week of breaking into my A.P.C. Petite Standards. They're fresh and currently slowly stretching out, I have my zippo inserted and ready to fade. I'll get a photo of them next to my 3 other Nudies. (Finally my first pair of selvedged denim!)

Sorry like always on slow updates, these last few weeks have been mentally tough so I'm just surviving. Would also like to end it with a wish to William 'Humga' Suen! Happy Birthday my brother! Hope you have a great day!

Clash of the excited fucking titans

When things are great things crash down fast, hur. Mum's been away for 1 week now and I'm finding it hard to cope, currently losing my mind. Uni is fine at the moment with review week passing it for the first time with flying colours.

I couldn't ask for much more to be honest.

A few things in the last week have surprised me, one being that 'Fast Five' the fifth installment of the franchise 'The Fast & Furious' is actually very good and worth seeing. Sure it's not deep and meaningful movie but who would expect that? I got everything I expected from it and much more, left the cinemas wanting to drive fast and punch on with randoms. Definitely worth a watch if you're into the whole F&F franchise, it's the best one yet.

The complete opposite could be said for Sucker Punch which I saw about 2-3 weeks ago. It made my mind bleed. Speaking of bleeding is that last night changed my perspective on a few things. I guess it'll go into a life chapter in the future.

Yesterday also was a shoot I went to help out Kenny Son with for Show Pony, I didn't really help (guilty) but rather I painted some walls and got a little wet. It was fun and the model was amazing! (Chelsea Cole is hot!

It sucks when you have little to no paint left. And caps are minimal.

Timbo: Well, I've been settling at home and I also been creating a few things but other than that I went to TROPFEST 2011!

T: You make it sound like a crazy event, was it fun? What did you think of it?
T: Well it was pretty much, wait, I've never been to Trop Fest but rather enjoyed it every year when I got it with the newspaper so this was quite new for me. It was good to watch it on the grass on picnic rugs eating and drinking outside, definitely beats the couch for something new, I'd do the same for 2012!

Creative Impulses

I'm one that procrastinates to the max. Failing Uni seems like the norm for me and cruising seems like a chore now. But through my lowest of lows and highest of 'highs' there lays a creative spark inside me that comes out from time to time. In the last 2 months I've been scheming a short-film of some sort and also to make a set for someone special (That someone special knows who they are :3) so through the last couple of weeks I've come up with the idea to make a mini-model set. It's not-yet complete but very close. I originally had paper-cut-outs but I've abadoned that idea for aesthetic reasons.

I'm on my way to creating a storyboard, finding a director/cinematographer and someone to help me with narration/sound. It's going to be pretty tight-knit and I'll post WIP when I can but hopefully it'll be done within a couple of months :)

Everything is hand made or from train model sets. I hope this turns out well, time to hit the drawing boards!

Post Valentines Day 2011

~~It's been a long time since~~ I've never spent V-Day with someone. So this was a pretty special day for me even though technically it was the day after it, but didn't matter. It's rather a thought than a day, the apparent day where lovers worldwide spend a more romantic day than usual.

I couldn't ask for a better day, it started 2 days earlier, when I received my Christmas/Valentine's day gift perfectly in time. (Check my prior post) Then I met Grace at her's and we went to Waterloo and visited the French House. Definitely something amazing, the atmosphere is authentic and the food is delicious and well priced. We also visited the Dank St galleries where I was blown away by Maria Speyer's etchings and prints and Morgan Shimeld's metal sculptures. We ended up at the Sydney Chinese Gardens, a place of peace and tranquility. Then I had my compulsory sleep in Hyde Park. Oh I love sleeping there. There was also a sick Ibis I fed... that didn't work out so well :p

Listening to James Blake, who's this new dub artist from England. Fresh out with his self titled LP, he's got a slow dub release that's reminiscent of a mix of a vocal trance mixed with dub chill. The equation leaves you with an amazing romantic lyrical trip. Definitely a great start to 2011, would go on the shelf alongside Washed Out or Toro Y Moi in my chillwave and chill dub hits.

Other musical good news is that I've locked DOOM tickets in March. Alongside DOOM is Mount Kimbie, who easily took album of 2010 in my books. I hit a rough patch when I found out tickets to his show at Good God was sold out, I was spewing when I realized this. The next day was spent panicking and figuring out what to do, so a friend suggested I see him in Melbourne. It would be an amazing idea since dizz1 and Lorn are also supporting but bad for me trying to save some cold hard funds. Luckily this story ends the next day when I find out from Grace that MK has a second show. Bought 3 tickets the second I found out, so now I shall see you readers at both events, DOOM and Mount Kimbie.

Recently been overcoming a cold and had an intense fever 1 week ago that I was pretty much sure I was clinically insane. I visited a few new places which were amazing and interesting. Did a photo job which made me love shooting once again. New contacts and new jobs are always fun.

Typing this off my iPad so I hope I'll come back and add some photos or something.

Crimewave

It's a damn hot day and I'm at home smashing through 'The Walking Dead' and to be honest I'm pretty much lifeless myself at home. Nothing achieved.

But last night I could say it differed. I was at Sydney Festival's Beck's Bar. I stood at the front as the crowd stood there anticipating Gold Panda, quiet as ever. The only sound was the slow tempo of the crescendo, building up, the masses still staring, some closing their eyes gazing at the DJ. GP's neck bouncing back and forth perfectly in rhythm, he's one with his tune for he gave birth to it. Slowly but surely 'Vanilla Minus' (I think, my is memory hazy) kicked and the crowd was entranced and everyone started rocking and moving to the beat. I moved away from the front of the stage and stood alongside Grace and Sujin when 'You' started playing a second of silence before the crowd went wild. It was intense.

I can't really explain much more but Gold Panda was a great experience.

I'm a Geek/Nerd/Hermit. Whatever you call it.

Well coming from years of being lonely and constantly sticking to my computer screen, it's raised me and affected me as it would most people, only a little bit more than others (Or not so much in some others). Coming from a background of heavy and what some would say unhealthy gaming (Well my Mum thought so, but truly it was never an extreme case) I've somewhat been shit bored with my current computer. I couldn't care less whether it was a PC or Mac (So don't give me that shit) but yeah at the moment it seems I'm spending more time looking at the physical thing itself than spending time doing something productive or whatever.

1 year ago I would be playing DotA or spending long hours waiting for replies from my several accounts registered on the many forums that coincided with my hobbies. 2 years ago I would be playing games from DotA to CSS to whatever my computer could handle. Now? I'm playing Bejeweled and the occasional Words with Friends (Imagine Scrabble online if you don't have an iPhone/iOS device)

The actual portability of it lets me do other things but at the moment I'm doing nothing else other than watching content online or downloading movies/TV shows and listening to music waiting for the downloads to finish. I could be going out to take photos but I have this compulsive disorder to keep my computer organised... ahhh so I've bought a 2TB hard drive (Well it was originally Grace's but now mine) and now I've bought another 1TB just incase the 2TB fails on me. New speakers to replace the old ones that constantly had terrible feedback. Now my workhorse computer is amazingly sexy and hot and coupled with my iPad I can't seem to walk away without being mildly satisfied by it's cheap and short lived entertainment gimmicks that are distracting me from my real duties. I've been sucked into aesthetics and cheesy gadget gimmicks. But they satisfy me oh so much.

I couldn't comment or really pinpoint my actual reasoning of this post but it's more of a reminder whenever I look back onto my blog and see what I've achieved and what are my priorities...

Onto more relevant things that can be discussed and shared would be Gold Panda. Playing at the Beck's Bar at Sydney Festival he'll be tearing it up on the 14th of January 2011 (This Friday!) so I'll be there along with Sujin and Grace but if you read this blog and are also coming please feel free to contact me, I'm curious of who else enjoys him and is in my circle of friends (I find it really interesting talking to people you know about music and they have similar tastes to you, it's like finding out a secret about them).

I'm currently playing his two other albums, firstly I had Lucky Shinier, but downloaded 'Unreleased Medical Journal' and 'Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go' which are so far great on the ears. Speaking of good on the ears are my new speakers. 'Gigaworks T20' 2.0 speakers. They're very sexy and suit my computer very well.

Past recounts since my last post? I went to see Flying Lotus/Dam-Funk/GasLamp Killer/Opiuo. I was slightly disappointed when I heard Hudmo pulled out but it was amazing with Opiuo showing some new things I've never heard and Dam-Funk ripping it up followed by the energetic flow of FlyLo and to end it was GLK doing his intense and quirky set. I was tired but in the end I was still moving. I wish I brought my camera.

I have a few photo-shoots planned that I would like to see come into the light. It's just time to prepare now.

A Fresh Start

Happy New Year my humble readers,

I hope you all had a great time partying whether it be by yourselves or with your best friends and family. I spent my time with a new person in my life. I couldn't have asked for a better NYE and NY. I spent quality time beforehand with family then with Grace at her apartment along with Sujin and Arthur. We made Sangria, shared crackers, cheese, Pringles (which I hogged) and played a fun game of Cluedo (totes need to play this again!)

The fireworks like every other year is not that amazing. I'm always compelled how people make the ever so lengthy journey into the City to meet up and watch the fireworks. It's crowded and on a day like the 31st of December 2010, it was hot and humid. I was huddled inside the apartment playing lovely board games and swimming on the rooftop. Was mesmerising.

Some things of 2010 that I would like to mention that set me into different footpaths

Nosaj Thing/The XX/Mount Kimbie (Big shout out to Cynthia Quach :) definitely opened my eyes/ears to new genres and moved away from Hip-Hop on a whole new level, music is a core-part of me now)
Riders (Mad props to Ant, David, Jay, Paul and any other riders out there that joined us on our quests to Rhodes or other ridiculous places)
Chilled sessions at my house (My house finally became a haven for me that I wanted to stay back at... before this it was other people's)
New friendships and old friendships (Old friends that introduce me to new friends, some friendships that will last forever)
Family and Feather. You guys hold me together :)

2011, a brand new start. Each year it happens, guess this time there was a lot more achieved than usual :)

My View on Tumblr

I don't know if it's me, but I personally feel that tumblr is a very lazy blog. Although I do have one and I do occasionally use it and I have allocated it as an online digital scrapbook, I feel that it's more of a major mind-map of stolen and borrowed images with the occasional input from other users. There's little personal feeling between the poster and the website (sure, you personalise your website with the content you post rather than the actual site... but that's not the point)

When I'm on tumblr, I don't really feel like posting much, it seems to be rather a convention centre of reposts and recycled matter. People's posts are like stalls that really are a little more deep than your average internet meme or screencaps are generally just lost within the sea of posts with a million notes. Yes, I'm aware I can control who I follow and for that reason I find it hard, cause a lot of the people I follow; I myself re-post from their tumblr's so I don't want to unfollow them, maybe also because I have this blog. Maybe I'm just an elitetess tard, (Well technically no, you're using Blogger to blog rather than Wordpress so that's quite redundant Timothy) but I feel rather other blog systems are more like inviting someone over to your house, they get a little more rather than flashing through other people's stalls at the convention centre.

I'm not totally sure but I guess that's how I feel about tumblr, a seemingly similar cross-over of twitter and your conventional blog... or because the dashboard is similar to twitter, a live simultaneous feed which you interact and feed what you want to others... still somewhere deep down in there, there's great posts but I feel like I'd rather bookmark those. I'm just lazy I guess.

Merry Christmasses

As the title states, Merry Christmas.

I assure you I have been busy and creating things and/or working. I have recently acquired an iPad from a fellow friend (Christopher Nheu) which has made me stay away from my iMac for several days and probably even a week. It helps me actually be productive when I'm chilling within my bedroom and hermit-ing from society for reasons that benefit both myself and society (For I am not wreaking havoc and being a bad reason for a human being)

This year at Christmas I did feel a little more enthusiastic being that I am able to actually purchase presents for people. People equaling my family and pets. I also did sorta get Grace a present, well not really. I kind of got myself into a little bit of debt after a run-in with the Transit Officers (Damn dirty dogs) who were undercover and had these ridiculous badges on. Which left me into a little bit of a dilemma, I intended to buy her something quite extravagant but instead I was left with nothing but rocks and lint within my pockets. I decided to paint these rocks though and created a pair of rocks that match those from this painting: Blog Link

What came out in the end were two small round rocks, an owl and a fox. I wasn't able to take a photo of either but they're in possession by a special someone.

Sunday day and evening was a day to remember. We wined and dined at the Winery, there we had amazing drinks and nibbles which got us all full and content. Just the right level. After we went to Grace's to swim and lounge about as lazy animals during intense games of Jungle Speed.

And my favourite image of the evening. It was like this all day, minimal clouds, sun shining and a slight breeze. The feeling of tranquility overwhelmed me.
I can't wait til Wednesday and Thursday :)

The last two days have been long and tiring.

Wednesday I visited the Anna Leibovitz exhibition on at MCA. A lot of amazing work from a worldwide famous photographer who I never knew, (Who I should) We ate lunch at Wynyard before trekking to Grace's rooftop where water fights and Jungle Speed ensued. I napped for a bit then ate at Mamak for the first time! I've been suppose to go there so many times with Hui but about 3 or 4 times that we went to go, they were closed! It was definitely a different taste to the usual meal in the Chinatown area and I would definitely like to try their other plates. I go the Nasi Lemak which is like a traditional Malaysian meal consisting of coconut rice and anchovy sides, hard boiled egg and satay sauce with a bunch of other small things. It was quite nice but I would've liked to try the roti's but for some reason I didn't.

After that Grace and I went to the Manning Bar where we watched 'Girls' with Lukas Godbout (thanks for the hookup!) they were alright but after the first few songs it was quite repetitive. Definitely had fun though :)

Thursday I spent my lucky time with the Mitch and William and the latest Feather member! New member or not she's awesome and I've being hanging with her over the last few months :) Sujin is by far one of the coolest girls I've met. She drove us around whilst we delivered mail to houses. It was an relentlessly humid day making it quite a bad day to hand out flyers and walk for miles but with good company anything can be achieved.

I also missed out on 'Washed Out'! Quite sad but watching Girls the day before is good enough. Hoping to sell my Fixie soon so I can buy that iPad. Yes, you heard me right, Sky-blade is going to be sold. We've had some ups and downs over the last 2 years but you've always been by me. Some of my best memories were with you. My passion for bikes has not died for I still have my BMX and Town bicycle who will both get thrashings this month hopefully. I'll dedicate a post to you Sky-Blade when you do depart :( I have not given up on fixies. My next bike is going to be called 'Dusk'

Every second she's not here I'm thinking of and missing her.

On Centre Stage

Today I watched Harry Potter and The Banshee Demons of Halloween Pt 1 with lovely Grace and Sujin. It was pretty dark and gruesome. But the best part was when Dobby died. I laughed for some reason. I just can't take his character seriously, he's just such a vagina. He gets jabbed and bleeds. I doubt I'm spoiling anything anyway, because unlike me I guess that majority of the readers would have read the Harry Potter book and if you haven't, have already seen the movie.

After the movie I ran from Town Hall to Oxford St trying to hail a taxi which I eventually did after dodging and punching a few taxis along the way. I ended up at The Forum for a shoot for 'Noggi'. A froyo brand that's hitting Sydney (There's a store in Macquarie Centre). Be sure to check it out!

Also I'd like to congratulate Lisa Lee for 2nd place in the Miss University! I had no idea it was on but I guess you're a superstar :) You looked stunning tonight!

Double Visioning

Check out this baller suit. Combo'd with the stunner shades it un-fuck-wit-able. We spent like a good hour or two at Paddy's. I have not been here since 2006. It's quite shit like always but there's always something interesting, I nearly pulled triggers on a magic card thing. It blew minds. Several minds. Many times over.

Then our crew bar timbo were all wearing Khaki's, it was intense. Here's B1 and B2 on some 3D now you see it now you don't shit. We ended up at Tom & Tom's for some coffee and refreshment action where we talked about impossible scenarios and Zyss. It was fucking juicy.

ALIO was pretty average at best. Never going back.

But you can't mess with good ole Jenga at Norita :)

So here is the next step to making myself a better photographer. Re-lighting the passion. The 35mm I feel is the right lens for me to shoot everyday. It's not too tight and not ridiculously wide. I also got to pick up my Rollei SL82. It's in working order and came with a cool leather case. Definitely going to rock it out this summer! Maybe this could be my transition from still to film. Either way I have an amazing summer to look forward to, sure the Road trip is ~~probably~~ not going to happen but that doesn't set me back from anything anyway. It's just more time to spend with others around me.

I cannot wait for Thursday and Friday. Thursday is dinner with Grace at a prime little restaurant. I doubt it'll be that awesome after tasting Gordon Ramsey's set, but hopefully it'll be close. I am also loving the weather, rain can wash away the sunshine and the heat but it can't stop me from dancing in the rain. Going to get some awesome shots in the next 2 weeks in the rain. I just love taking my camera in the rain/water. Knowing that it could be fucked up at any second (Well it's weather sealed...) makes it really fun seeing that everyone else leaves their babies at home. Also setting up a few surprises here and there, tinkering and wanting to build bigger and bigger. New projects are swirling in my mind everyday.

What Am I?

Sometimes I'm unsure of exactly what I shoot. I personally dislike shooting certain things to be honest (I won't mention them but most people know what type it is) and truthfully there's only 2 things I love most.

'Candids' and 'The-Everyday'.

There's nothing more satisfying than capturing both. I'm not an arty photographer and I'm trying constantly to improve but after shooting for several years and perfecting nothing seems quite bland from where I stand. I guess it's only upwards from here on in.

Just collecting my primes and now, my poems. I've gone through some old archives of my poems and I think I'll type them out one day. Although most of them are morbid-gore, the other ones make me smile, I can also remember the mood and night I wrote all of them. What exactly was in my mind.

So I'll end this post with this poem that was never finished. I posted it on my blog about 10 months ago, January, I had an amazing entry (Well I think it is) and even til this day I can't finish it. It was dedicated to a friend and influenced by Portishead. Maybe it's suppose to be this short. I cut the other 2 lines because they were filler when I wrote it.

It's long appearance and it's shortening nature, it's thin fragile body to be consumed by the many.

Having no camera really sucks. I do have a camera but it's a webcam... and I do shoot film, but I'm lazy to develop and scan. I feel bad rambling on without a photo, because the original basis of this blog was to be a photoblog. I've been faithful to it recently but it's really killing me not being able to do so.

I've been to CarriageWorks over in Redfern a few times over the last week and it's amazing. If you do not know about the COFA degree show then you are missing out. I went on Monday and was blown away by it. Taking my mum on Wednesday to the Digital Media night. I can't wait to see the works properly and spend more time on the ones I whizzed through on Monday. Planning to get a little loose also, found all these random drink vouchers, so I'm definitely going to abuse it :)

I nearly bought a 80-200mm today but got outbided, so whatever. Definitely buying a 35mm f2.0 at the end of the week. I can't stand the 50mm anymore! It's a major kit lens and what not but I personally feel that it's so tight and most of the time when I'm shooting for the blog there's no time to compose and frame. The 17-35 is just a little too (Just a little) large to lug around. The best thing about buying primes is the joy and the relighting of my passion of photography.

Some small things and points achieved today, chilled with mother, ate beef rendang, cleaned the mx-5 and visited David Lee and had a Blueberry Fanta/Monaco Bar. Great day to drive topless :giggles:

Anyway here's a photo from Monday night. Grace's flowery headpiece made me nearly as cute as her blushy smile :)

I also saw AK and Tim Chuan on Pennant Hills Rd whilst driving, I never see people when I drive in the corolla :/

Food, Festivals and Fanfare

With lots of food to be eaten at Yum Cha, so is disappointment. The food there was underpar (Zilvers) and apparently it's suppose to be really awesome. Sorry Sujin it was pretty aves at most and the chicken feet weren't great, but regardless I was with friends so I can't complain. Had a great bromance with Chris the night before, we just chilled from 93 til infinity. Watched Red (Thanks sujin) and then I got like 4 hours sleep before setting foot out to Yum Cha.

After this I split from the crew to go to the Newtown Festival along with Jimmy and Charli. To be honest it was fairly boring and just packed as shit. Massive amounts of people going to the average sunday market only with louder music and more grog and more green products.

After I went with Grace for some Ben & Jerry's on a Belgian Waffle. The ice-cream topped the day (Mint Chocolate & Peanut Butter Chunk) then we laid in USYD park watching planes, balloons and little kids having staring contests.

When I went home I noticed this man rocking out like no tomorrow on platform 20-something. He didn't give a fuck and gave it his best. Best air-guitar performance in public I have seen, especially to the sound of cancelled trains. I died at 2am after falling asleep at the wheel.

Summer Stains in Spring?

I got a new bird... it's sibling died when it's mother/father attacked it. We saved this one but it died shortly after 1 day...

Today, I got toasted by the Australian sun, I spent the day with Mitchell, Sujin, Carolina & Claudia. It was a nice sunny chilled day. Shark Bay wasn't too packed and there was a free titty show by teens. I felt like a criminal noticing them :grins:

We played Beach Cricket... kind of. I slept in the sun and now my shoulders are a slight pink, I'm currently listening to Deerhunter. I wish someone would chill at mine, share a smoke, coffee or scrap both and smoke a doobie to this. Today is nearly perfect but I wouldn't ask for much more. Grace should've joined today but I guess there's always tomorrow right? :)

Time Hustling

Just a general day, out and about within Sydney.

It was something new though, I somehow ended up in Coogee laying on the sand. The sand between my fingers and toes, it's still within my hair as I type this (I need to have a shower) it's been too long since I've stepped foot on a beach and fell asleep.

Review didn't end up so well but I got it over and done with, which is what matters. I got to spend the rest of the day with Sujin, Carolina, Claudia and of course Grace :3 (And Will came along later on in the day)

Crafty things are brewing, I'm heavily inspired by the people around me and I thank everyone for every moment I'm able to spend with you all. I cannot wait to start shooting some film soon. I have a few things to be purchased on eBay, a lot of vintage random things and all will be revealed in due time.

If only I could write in my other blog. That blog would be full by now. Sometimes I wish I could post anonymously but I know there's an audience and not knowing who exactly reads this scares me into what I can and cannot post.

Never Ending Weekends

I don't want them to end.

This was a wonderful week. Although I was at COFA for unhealthy amounts of hours (I feel sorry for the people that are there doing editing :P) it was better than being at home whilst my iMac was in intensive care. I spent lots of time with Sujin and Grace which was fun :3

I've quit smoking cigarettes too. So if you see me chewing lots of gum or fiddling around uncontrollably then that's why. If you do see me smoking cigarettes at any time in the next few months then feel free to punch me in the face. This time it'll be a lot easier.

If you've been reading my twitter updates then you may have seen that I have some new ideas, I can't wait to get them into prototype stages, but until then I cannot show, cause that'd make me look halfarsed if you constantly read my blog and find out that I gave up on it later.

On Saturday I visited a few people, I was at Terry Smith's office (SCA teacher/painter) and witnessed his works, his works are amazing. (I think Terry Smith is his name -_-) then I visited B2 and Nick's new store at Pitt St Westfield. The Westfield is fucking massive, confusing and amazing.

After that I attended Michele Lim's 21st birthday! It was a great party with delicious food and great people. I had a great night. Thanks Hui! (It's her official birthday today, so I'll say it once again, Happy Birthday!)
